The brief: Ooyala ran on its engineers. Hackathons, recruiting and sales kickoffs all needed an identity that felt like it came from inside the company, not from marketing.
The role: I directed my in-house team and designed key pieces myself. For the hackathons, we built the branding around what the engineers loved, so it felt like theirs: robots, retro sci-fi and a little hardware nerdiness. That same spirit carried into recruiting shirts, “reasons to work here” cards and the identities for our 2016 and 2017 sales kickoffs.
The result: Engineers wore the shirts, recruiting sounded like the people doing the work, and every internal event felt like part of the same company.
Role: creative direction, design.
